| Charles Coward joined Uría Menéndez in 1975 and
was made partner in 1981. He opened the Barcelona office in 1987
and became its managing partner. From 1993 until 2004 he worked
in the Madrid office, first as the head of the firm’s Latin
American practice, and later as coordinator and head of the firm’s
corporate real estate practice group. In 2004 Charles returned
to Barcelona as managing partner and is currently the Barcelona
office’s senior partner. He was elected an honorary founding
partner of the firm in 2003.
Charles handles a wide range of business transactions,
concentrating on real estate and project finance for real estate
developments, and has coordinated several high profile property
transactions in Spain.
International legal directories (IFLR, European Legal Experts,
International Who’s Who of Lawyers, etc.) name Charles as a
leading lawyer in Spain in corporate governance, M&A and real
estate. |
Selected Professional and Civic Activities
Charles served on the board of directors of the Benjamin
Franklin International School in Barcelona (1989-1993) and as chairman of
the board of trustees of the American School of Madrid from 1994 until 2008
and continues as an honorary member.
He has served as co-chair of the International Division of the International
Law and Practice Section of the New York State Bar Association and as
director and member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of
Lex Mundi. Charles is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Law
Firm Management Committee of the International Bar Association.
Charles has been an arbitrator in international
arbitration proceedings, is a frequent speaker at civic and professional
gatherings, and contributes articles to a variety of professional
publications. He particularly enjoys researching and writing about law firm
management. Charles is also an avid sailor.
