Emilio Díaz Ruiz is a partner in the Madrid office of Uría
Menéndez. He joined the firm in 1981 and became a partner in
1989. His practice covers a wide range of commercial work but
specialises in banking, capital markets and project finance. He
acts as external counsel to many banks and has been a key player
in the drafting of regulations in the field of securities. He
has also been involved in significant project finance
transactions such as wind farm and mini-hydro projects. Emilio
is regarded as a leading lawyer in Spain in banking and finance
by international legal directories such as Chambers & Partners,
IFLR 1000 and PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook.

Main professional activities

Member of the Editing Committee of the “Revista de
Derecho Bancario y Bursátil” since 1986 and of the Advisory Committees of
the “Revista Española de Capital Riesgo”, and the “Revista de Derecho del
Mercado de Valores” since their creation.

Co-Director of the School of Financial Studies at the
Universidad Internacional Menéndez y Pelayo in Santander, between 1993 and
1998.

Vice-Secretary to the corporations of the MEFF Group
from 1989 to 2004.

Secretary to the board of directors of Banque Indosuez
España, S.A. between 1991 and 1999 and of Bank of America, S.A. between
2001 and 2002.
Legal Teaching
Since 1986, Emilio has been a commercial law lecturer at
the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Universidad
Complutense de Madrid.
