Carlos López-Quiroga is a partner in the Madrid
office of Uría Menéndez. He became a member of the firm in 1990 when
the law firm “Figaredo & Asociados”, specialising in maritime law,
joined Uría & Menéndez. He became a partner of the firm in 2002.
He is specialised in maritime law and mainly advises on matters related
to finance structures for the acquisition of vessels, insurance, ship
arrests, shipbuilding contracts, Spanish tax lease schemes, tonnage tax,
ship sale and registration. He is regarded as a
leading lawyer by the main international legal directories, such as,
Chambers Europe, among others.

Legal Teaching
He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences
related to his area of expertise.
He is regularly invited to lecture on maritime law at
various organisations and institutions (I.E.E.M; C.O.M.M.E; I.M.E, “Escuela
de Administración Marítima del Gobierno Vasco”).
He was a speaker at the Maritime Law Congress held in
Tenerife on 26th and 27th September 2002 and organised by the Spanish
Maritime Law Association: “Register of Vessels and Shipping Companies.
Financing Structures and Necessary Amendments”.
On 7th and 8th November 2002, he lectured on the Master’s
course on Maritime Law and International Business at the Centro de
Estudios Marítimos del Atlántico- Universidad de Derecho de Las Palmas:
“Los Contratos de Explotación del Buque”.
On 16th November 2002, he lectured at the Instituto
Universitario de Estudios Marítimos, Universidad de La Coruña:
“Limitation on the Shipowner’s Liability. The Current Problems”.
In January 2003, he lectured at the Instituto
Universitario de Estudios Marítimos, Universidad de La Coruña:
