Duarte Garin joined Uría Menéndez as a partner in 2001. During that year, Uría Menéndez became the first foreign law firm to be authorized by the Lisbon Bar Association to open an office and render legal services in Portugal. Duarte has headed the Lisbon office ever since he joined the firm.

He focuses his practice on real estate law and has worked in some of the most significant acquisition and real estate transactions in Portugal.

Duarte is Chairman of the General Meeting and Secretary of a leading real estate entity in Portugal.

He was described in the 2004-2005 edition of Chambers Global as follows: “the brilliant Duarte Garin spearheads the incredibly successful team." With about 20 years in practice he was described by market observers as "the don for real estate," and hailed for his "technical skill, amazing technical abilities and 100% dedication."

Duarte was regarded as a Legal Expert in Real Estate in the 2004 and 2005 editions of European Legal Experts. He also appears as a Leading Individual in Commercial Property in Portugal in the 2004-2005 edition of Global Counsel’s Commercial Property Handbook and as a Leading Individual (unmatched) in Corporate Real Estate in the 2005 edition of Global Counsel 3000.

He was also ranked by Chambers Global 2003 and 2004-2005 in Corporate and M&A, in Portugal.
