Fernando Azofra is a partner in the Madrid office of Uría Menéndez. He was admitted to the Madrid Bar in 1992 and joined the firm in 1993. He set up and headed Uría Menéndez’s Lisbon office from 1998 to 2001.

At Uría Menéndez, he advises domestic and foreign companies on real estate and banking matters. He has broad expertise in structuring and implementing property investments, divestments and financings He has assisted in corporate and real estate deals for an aggregate consideration in excess of Euro 20 billion. Regarding his financing expertise, he has outlined mortgage-backed financings, project finance, structured financings and “plain vanilla” financings over Euro 8.6 billion (some of which were the first deals of their kind in Spain).

He is regarded as a leading lawyer by the main international legal directories, such as, Chambers & Partners, PLC and International Who's Who of Lawyers, among others. Click here for more information.

He lectures on a continuous basis on property, M&A and banking matters for law schools, legal and business institutes and organisations, such as:

  • “Urban infrastructure finance” at the seminar on Real Estate Investment sponsored by Recoletos Editors in November 2005.

  • “Collective Investment Schemes” in the Annual Law Master Programme of the Fundación Carolina since 2002.

  • “Joint Ventures” for the Legal Master’s Programme sponsored by the Port Catholic University (Portugal), April 2002.

  • “Distance Marketing of Financial Services Draft Directive” in the “Electronic Commerce” Seminar sponsored by the Institute for International Research, 2000.

  • “Industrial Technology Prospects”, EOI, 2000.

  • “Legal framework for private financing of transport infrastructure” in “Private financing of public infrastructure”, a seminar sponsored by the Basque Public Administration, February 1997.

Since 2005, Fernando is the academic director of the annual post-graduate programme on “Real Estate Finance” of the Instituto de Empresa business and law school (Madrid).
