José Pérez Santos is a partner in Uría Menéndez’s Madrid office. He
joined the firm in 1974 and became partner in 1982.
Between 1976 and 1977, José was seconded to the Brussels office of
the US law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton.
José focuses his practice on commercial law, communications law, (including,
telecommunications, media and e-commerce), pharmaceutical law and food
law.
He frequently represents and advises key players in regulated sectors:
- on corporate and contractual matters, such as M&A, joint ventures
and corporate restructurings, and
- on regulatory matters, such as governmental authorizations,
network and infrastructure development and the contracting of
audiovisual?? rights and contents.
José has also handled significant competition cases in the
communication, pharmaceutical and media sectors.
He is regarded as a
leading lawyer by the main international legal directories, such as,
Chambers & Partners, PLC and International Who's Who of Lawyers, among

Executive Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees of
Fundación Profesor Uría.
Legal Teaching
From 1978 until 1984, he lectured on Commercial Law at
the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
From 1985 until 1991, he lectured on European Community
Law at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid.
José participates regularly as a speaker at seminars and
conferences on subjects related to his field of expertise.
