Luis Figaredo is a partner in the Madrid office of
Uría Menéndez. He joined the firm in 2000 at a time when his own firm
“Figaredo & Asociados” - a leading firm specialising in maritime law -
merged with Uría Menéndez. Luis is specialises in
maritime law and mainly advises on matters related to finance structures
for the acquisition of vessels, insurance, ship arrests, shipbuilding
contracts, Spanish tax lease schemes, tonnage tax, ship sale and
registration. He led the team of lawyers of Uría
Menéndez representing the Kingdom of Spain in connection with the claims
being brought in other countries as a result of the “Prestige” oil
tanker disaster. Luis was named Legal Expert in Maritime and Transport
Law by European Legal Experts for five consecutive years (2001-2005).
His name is also mentioned under Maritime and Shipping in the 2005
edition of Global Counsel 3000. |
Legal Teaching

Español (IME) for the Masters’ programme in Maritime Law and the Masters’
Programme in Maritime Trade at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas in
Madrid, since 1985.
Professor of the Masters’ Programme at IME in Gijón,
since 1989.
Visiting professor since 1983 in various Masters’
programmes in Maritime Law, Maritime Trade, conferences and lectures.
Luis frequently participates in national and
international congresses, conferences and courses pertaining to his field of
expertise.
