Jaime Folguera is a partner in the Madrid office of
Uría Menéndez. He joined the firm as a partner in 1992, having
previously advised on EU legal affairs for Spanish government agencies.
He currently heads the Competition Law Department of Uría Menéndez.
His practice focuses on EU and Spanish competition
law. He is regularly asked to advise on EU and Spanish mergers in many
different sectors (such as banking and insurance, energy,
telecommunications, defence and civil and military aviation or
pharmaceuticals). Jaime is often consulted on cases
related to individual or collective abuse of a dominant position and
intervenes on a regular basis in proceedings for infringements of
Article 82 of the EU Treaty and Article 6 of the Spanish Law 16/1989 for
the Defence of Competition.
Jaime advises clients and files notifications of
joint ventures and strategic alliances or similar cooperation agreements
with the EU Commission or the Spanish Antitrust Authorities.
His team also advises on cases related to price
fixing, market- or client-sharing or other horizontal restrictions
between competitors and files notifications for negative clearance or
individual exemption/ authorisation for horizontal and vertical
agreements.
He also represents clients in proceedings.
Jaime was named Leading Individual in Competition and Antitrust by
Chambers Global 2003 and 2004-2005 as well as in the 2003-2004 and 2005
editions of Global Counsel 3000. He was also regarded by European Legal
Experts 2003, 2004 and 2005 as a leading individual in EU and
Competition Law. |
Legal Teaching
He currently teaches EU and Competition Law at the
Instituto de Empresa and at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, in
Madrid.
He is also a regular speaker and commentator at law
seminars and conferences pertaining to his field of expertise.
