Mario Fernández is a partner in the Bilbao office of Uría Menéndez. Before joining the firm at the beginning of 2002, Mario was the Head of Legal Services and a member of the Management Committee of the BBVA Group. Mario had a long-standing relationship with the BBVA Group, which saw him advise on all of BBVA Group’s purchases of banks and pension fund administrators in Latin America. As such, Mario took part in some of the most important financial operations of the last 20 years.

From 1980 to January 1985, he held the post of Vicelehendakari (Vice President) of the Basque Government and Chairman of the Cross-Party Commission on the transfer of competencies between the Central and the Basque Governments, as well as being the Chairman of the Economic Commission of the Basque Government.

Although he is based in the Bilbao office of Uría Menéndez, he advises on major financial operations led by the Madrid office.
