Rafael Sánchez Aristi joined the firm in 2015 as a consultant in the Madrid office. He specialises in copyright law, computer law and outsourcing, electronic communications, media, protection of personal data and e-commerce. He is a chaired professor of civil law at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (2018). He was the director of studies and reports of the General Council of the Judiciary (Consejo General del Poder Judicial) between 2009 and 2014, and served as deputy judge in the Provincial Court of Guadalajara (Audiencia Provincial de Guadalajara) between 2007 and 2009.
His doctoral thesis, La propiedad intelectual sobre las obras musicales (“Copyright on Musical Works”) was awarded the first Francisco de Asís Sancho Rebullida Prize (Universidad de Navarra, 1999). In 2015, his work La propiedad trenzada: el juego de lo material y lo inmaterial en las obras de arte (“Braided Property: the Interaction of the Material and the Immaterial in Works of Art”) was awarded the first Rodrigo Uría Meruéndano Art Law Prize (2015).
He is director of the Ibero-American Art Law Yearbook, deputy director of the journal pe. i. revista de propiedad intelectual, member of the Asociación de Profesores de Derecho Civil (Civil Law Lecturers Association), and member of the Asociación Literaria y Artística para la Defensa del Derecho de Autor (Spanish Group of the Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI)).
