Information collected by Matomo and information provided to UM

Matomo tracks web traffic from website users (including information regarding the times at which the website has been visited, whether the user has previously visited the website, which website has referred the user to the website concerned, IP address, etc.). By default, Matomo actives the setting of “Anonymization of the IP address” through which it stores in the database the IP addresses of each new user visiting the website but without the last digits of such IP addresses.

Matomo does not provide UM with the users’ actual IP address: it only provides statistical information concerning visits (users who have visited the site only once, the number of pages viewed, pages per visit, average duration of each visit, percentage of repeat visits, percentage of new visits, new users and repeat users, the frequency of visits and recent visits, whether there has been interaction with the content on the page, pages viewed), demographic data (language, country/territory, city), technology used (web browser, operating system, ISP, type of device), and source or medium.

Purpose

Matomo is a web analytics tool which allows website owners to analyse the degree to which users interact with the site. Clients of Matomo can consult various reports describing how users interact with their site with the aim of enhancing performance. Through this information, UM is able to analyse the user’s navigation of its Website. Matomo provides information about trends without identifying actual users.
