Alumni Privacy Policy

DATA AND DATA CONTROLLER. The identifying, contact, and professional information you choose to provide voluntarily, as well as any information you provide or that is subsequently generated in connection with your participation in the Alumni Program (e.g., your photograph when participating in events), will be processed by Uría Menéndez, Abogados, S.L.P. (“UM”), with its registered office at Calle Príncipe de Vergara, 187, Plaza de Rodrigo Uría, 28002 Madrid, Spain, as the data controller.

PURPOSES AND LEGAL BASIS. The purpose of the Alumni Program is to maintain a close relationship with former UM lawyers who enroll in the Program (the “Alumni”), keep them informed of news from UM and the legal world, and facilitate the creation of a network of contacts among themselves and with UM members. You may opt out of the Program at any time. Alumni data will be processed for these purposes based on the consent provided by the Alumni to participate in the Program and for the implementation of the Program itself. As part of the Program, UM may process data for the purposes of carrying out the Program in order to (i) compile and make available to alumni and current UM attorneys and staff a directory containing the alumni’s identification, professional information, and contact details; (ii) maintain contact with alumni in person or online, including sending emails and participating in groups such as those on LinkedIn; (iii) keep you informed of news regarding UM and the Alumni Program (e.g., by sending you the UM magazine or legal information, or by inviting you to alumni events or other UM events) through any of the channels you have provided, and (iv) for UM’s historical and statistical purposes. In addition, if you have authorized it or if there is another legal basis—such as UM’s legitimate interest in promoting solidarity through the Professor Uría Foundation—your data may also be processed so that the Professor Uría Foundation can keep you informed of its charitable and volunteer activities.

OUTPLACEMENT PROGRAM. As an additional value proposition, the Alumni Program offers, separately, an outplacement program to those alumni who wish to participate, designed to inform them and connect them with potential career opportunities of which UM is aware. This outplacement program requires separate registration, and the personal data of alumni who choose to register will be processed by UM for the stated purpose (career opportunities) and in accordance with the terms set forth in the Alumni Outplacement Privacy Policy.

COMMUNICATIONS AND TRANSFERS. The recipients of your data within the Alumni Program may include other alumni, as well as attorneys and staff at UM and, where applicable, at the Professor Uría Foundation. These recipients may be located anywhere in the world, including, therefore, countries whose data protection laws have not been deemed adequate by the EU. The data may also be disclosed to judges, courts, and competent authorities.

RETENTION. The data will be retained for as long as the alumnus remains a member of the Program and, following their withdrawal, will be blocked for a period of three years during which UM may still have legal liabilities.

RIGHTS. Data subjects may opt out of the Program or, at any time, exercise their rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection to receiving information, data portability, and restriction of processing with respect to the processing for which UM is responsible, by sending a written request to the Data Protection Officer at delegado-pd@uria.com. You may also contact the Spanish Data Protection Agency (www.aepd.es).
