URÍA MENÉNDEZ named European Firm of the Year
URÍA MENÉNDEZ has won the European Firm of the Year international prize awarded in the tenth edition of the prestigious legal publication “Legal Business”
February 12, 2007This is the first time in the history of the awards that a Spanish firm has been chosen. In doing so the panel highlighted URÍA MENÉNDEZ’s presence in Portugal, in addition to the practice’s “best friends” strategy as key to consolidating itself as the leading Iberian firm.
The prize also acknowledged the success of URÍA MENÉNDEZ’s strategy as an independent practice, recognizing that the firm chose to decline merger advances from international firms and “ has instead emerged as an independent powerhouse in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world. The 2004 merger with Portugal's Vasconcelos F. SÁ Carneiro, Fontes & Asociados has produced a fully integrated Iberian firm, reaching as far as Brussels, London, New York and South America.”
Partners Carlos de Cardenas and Juan Carlos Machuca, who was recently appointed managing partner of the London office, received the award at a prize-giving ceremony attended by leading international firms.
