The firm has received the “Human Capital” award from the Empresa y Sociedad Foundation

June 28, 2007

In a ceremony officiated by the President of the Autonomous Region of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, Uría Menéndez received the “Human Capital” award from the Empresa y Sociedad Foundation. Luis de Carlos, joint Managing Partner, received the award on behalf of Uría Menéndez in recognition of the pro bono work carried out by the members of the firm in 2006.

The selection committee placed significant emphasis on the number of lawyers and support staff who have actively participated in the firm’s community service projects. The committee praised the work carried out in public schools, prison centres and shelters for young immigrants, as well as the advice provided to non-profit organisations with limited resources. Sixty-five percent of Uría Menéndez’s staff have taken part in the different projects.

In the ceremony, a special mention was made of the 10,775 hours dedicated by the members of the firm last year to various community service projects, a figure that represented 2% of the firm’s billable hours.

During the award ceremony, Luis de Carlos thanked the members of staff of Uría Menéndez for the hard work and dedication that had culminated in receiving such a prestigious prize which had “far exceeded all expectations.” Mr. de Carlos also stated that “the award belongs to them, for without their enthusiasm and generosity, these projects which are planned and designed by the Professor Rodrigo Uría Foundation, would never have reached those who are most in need.”

As well as Uría Menéndez, three other companies have been commended for their work in different areas:

  • Sanitas, for Products and Services.
  • Grupo Eulen, for Employment.
  • Grupo SOS, for Community Development.
