Uría Menéndez ranks first in Spain in 4 of the 6 practice areas analysed by Chambers Global 2009
Uría Menéndez continues to hold the first place ranking in all categories of particular strategic importance including M&A, Litigation, Banking and Finance and Capital Markets (Equity), thereby reaffirming its position in the market.

SPAIN
The 2009 Edition of Chambers Global introduces importants changes to its methodology. While the previous edition analysed 14 categories (Uría Menéndez ranked 1st in 10 categories), only seven categories are currently analysed including the category “UK/US-qualified Experts” in which no Spanish firms are included. The remaining categories will become part of the 'Europe' guide which will be published at the end of April and include a more complete and representative analysis of the legal sector in Spain.
Among the categories analysed in the current edition (M&A, banking and financing, capital markets - Equity, Debt y Securitisations -,and litigation), Uría Menéndez holds the same positions as last year, as do Clifford Chance and Garrigues.

PORTUGAL
Chambers acknowledges Uría Menéndez’s importance in Portugal
Uría Menéndez’s presence in this edition of Chambers’s rankings for Portugal has improved from the previous year. The firm maintains its ranking in all the analysed areas while at the same time achieving the top position in Banking and Finance. As in Spain, many of the areas analysed in previous are no longer included in this edition and will instead be released in the Europe edition.

As in the previous year’s edition, the directory distinguishes Edurne Navarro as a prestigious lawyer in Belgium (4th) and the firm for its Competition/EU law (4th) practice.
EUROPE-WIDE
Uría Menéndez places 5th in Mergers and Acquisitions in the general European rankings.
