Uría Menéndez closes a record year with a turnover of EUR 192.1 million
The firm starts its financial year with the re-election of José María Segovia and Luis de Carlos as Senior Partner and Managing Partner respectively, and the appointment of six new partners
February 16, 2015Uría Menéndez has closed 2014 with a turnover of EUR 192.1 million, a 3.6 per cent increase compared to 2013. This figure is the highest turnover in the firm’s history. The notable shift in Spain and Portugal’s economies has given rise to a higher workload across all practice areas and offices.
The highlight of 2014 was the setting in motion of Uría Menéndez’s new Latin American strategy. This involved Uría Menéndez’s acquisition of a 30 per cent share in a new entity resulting from the merger of two of its “best friends” in the region, Philippi, Yrarrázaval, Pulido & Brunner (Chile) and Prietocarrizosa (Colombia). This led to the creation of the first major Ibero-American law firm, Philippi, Prietocarrizosa & Uría (www.ppulegal.com), which became operational on 1 January 2015. These three firms start this new venture after achieving their best results in their respective histories, which puts them in an even stronger position as they embark upon this project.
In the extraordinary general meeting of partners held at the end of December, José María Segovia Cañadas and Luis de Carlos Bertrán were re-elected as Senior Partner and Managing Partner, respectively, for another four-year term starting on 1 January 2015.
The firm also appointed six new partners on 1 January 2015: Gloria Marín Benítez (Tax, Madrid); Pedro Ravina Martín (Corporate, Madrid); Patricia Vidal Martínez (Competition and EU Law, Madrid); Eduardo Bagaría Mateos (Corporate, Barcelona); José Soria Sorjús (Corporate, Barcelona); and Nuno Salazar Casanova (Dispute Resolution, Lisbon).
Uría Menéndez is a leading law firm in the Ibero-American market with 16 offices located in the most important financial centres in Europe, the Americas and Asia. Founded in 1946, it has over 550 lawyers who advise on Spanish, Portuguese and EU law in business-related matters and covers the full spectrum of industry sectors.
