El Bosque Uría is born: a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility
Uría Menéndez is the first law firm in Spain to launch its own reforestation and carbon offsetting project.

The initiative, El Bosque Uría (The Uría Forest), marks our lasting commitment to the environment, biodiversity, and to positive social impact. Forming part of our broader sustainability and climate action strategy, the project has been developed in the Sierra de Francia (Salamanca) in collaboration with Carbon2Nature, part of the Iberdrola Group.
El Bosque Uría is an important step in our journey towards climate neutrality, a goal we aim to achieve by 2030 as set out in our climate action policy. This policy is built on a dual approach: significantly reducing our carbon footprint through internal efficiency measures, and then offsetting any unavoidable emissions through verifiable initiatives such as this one, in line with the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal.
What this pioneering project involves
- Carbon absorption rights secured over 90 hectares of reforested land in an area severely affected by the most devastating wildfire recorded in Salamanca so far this century.
- Over 134,000 native trees planted so far, including pines, oaks, hawthorns, strawberry trees and junipers.
- Reforestation was completed in the first quarter of 2025.
- The project is registered with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
What we hope to achieve
- Capture over 77,000 tonnes of CO2 in the next 50 years.
- Restore biodiversity in an area bordering the Las Batuecas – Sierra de Francia Natural Park, home to species such as the eagle owl, peregrine falcon and Iberian rock lizard.
- Improve water regulation by planting trees on the upper slopes, thereby reducing erosion and promoting water infiltration.
- Support the local economy by creating jobs and collaborating with local workers and businesses.
