Major changes to Spanish class actions and to make the civil courts more efficient

On 22 March the Draft Basic Law on civil procedure efficiency measures and consumer collective actions was approved. The text represents a significant overhaul of many aspects of civil procedure, including a comprehensive new regulation of collective actions, measures to encourage the use of ADR, provisions allowing judges to issue oral judgments in oral trials and the framework to create new courts of first instance (Tribunales de Instancia).
