Profile

Roberto Fernández Castilla joined Uría Menéndez as counsel in May 2023 after more than nine years in public service. Since 2019 he had been Chief State Lawyer of the Secretary of State for Energy, participating in all reforms of the energy sector carried out by the Spanish Government. He also oversaw and coordinated the entire portfolio of energy litigation filed against the State.

Since 2016 – and simultaneously with his other position until 2021 – Roberto formed part of the International Arbitration Department of the Office of State Attorneys and led in numerous investment arbitrations brought against Spain.

Roberto also acted as lead counsel to the public business entity IDAE-Institute for Energy Diversification and the Nuclear Safety Council.

Roberto lectures on administrative law and administrative litigation in the master’s degree in advocacy and the LLM offered by the IE Business School.
